Website Design is going to get your website, looking and performing the way you want it. It may look great and work well, but without the use of website marketing and promotion techniques your website is not going to be found and you will not get the traffic and clients you desire.

Website marketing takes on many different forms but can be broken down into three simple steps.

Let's have a look now at some of the ways we can promote our websites by using website marketing strategies. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but does highlight some of the better ways of marketing your website.

  1. You must get as many quality one-way back links as you can to point to your website.
  2. You must get as many quality reciprocal links as you can to point to your website.
  3. You will need to advertise your website, your products and services. (particularly in the early stages of development).
  4. You must build a client base (build a list) that you can market your products and services to.
  5. You may need to enlist the help of others in the form of affiliate marketers.

Let's now break this down looking at item number one first

You must get as many quality one-way back links as you can to point to your website.

How should we go about this? There are a number of different strategies that we can employ that will help us build quality one-way back links. These would include:

  • Submitting articles to the article directories, which includes a link back to your website.
  • By participating in forums. Some but not all forums allow for links back to your website.
  • Leaving comments on high ranking blogs that allow links to your website.
  • Using social network sites that allow links to your website.
  • You can also create classified ads on high ranking auction websites. (these would need to be renewed after a period of time)
  • By using a paid link directory service.
  • By submitting press releases about your company and it's products and services.
  • Having good website content will make people want to link to you.

You must get as many quality reciprocal links as you can to point to your website.

It is important to understand that reciprocal linking does not hold the same weight with search engines as a one-way link. They do however hold slightly more weight if the website that you are linking with is similar in content/theme as your own website. We obviously do not recommend you link to your opposition's website. However as in the case of a plumber living in one city, they could easily link to other plumber's websites in different cities and countries. You can get reciprocal links by doing the following.

  • Asking other website owners for a reciprocal link.

  • Linking with a free Internet services link directory (These websites will usually require a reciprocal link for their free service)

You will need to advertise your website, your products and services.

Advertising your website can be done by various means. One of the most effective ways is to use Google Adsense to promote your new website. There are other very effective advertising PPC ad portals that you can use to further promote your website. Another way you can promote your website is by submitting it to search engines. There are hundreds if not thousands of search engines you can submit your website to. Obviously you would want to submit your site to the main search engines namely: Google, Yahoo, MSN, Dmoz and Ask. Traditional advertising is also an option.

You must build a client base (build a list) that you can market your products and services to.

 

Having a database of e-mail addresses (list) that you can market your products and services to has been proven to be the most effective method of achieving consistent conversion. You should always be looking for ways to increase the number of people you have in your database. Remember, these people have opted in to receiving e-mail from you. Care should be taken not to spam or abuse your e-mail list.

Effective website design encompasses many different aspects. Having a website is not the end of your marketing efforts. You need to promote your website so that it works for you. You've no doubt heard that writing articles is a good way to get your website and yourself known. To promote your website and to be seen as an expert in whatever field you decide on is paramount. You need to keep in mind a few pointers about writing articles that are to be distributed online.

The idea of writing articles to increase the links coming into your website is a good one in itself because the more links you have pointing back to your website the better. Known as back links, these links point to your website. They can be from your articles or from recommendations from other websites. There are numerous article directories on the Internet where you can publish your articles. But wouldn't it be even better if your articles did a lot more than just point back to your website?

What you should be aiming for is not just articles for articles sake but producing articles that people really want. In other words – they should contain quality information. Just imagine writing an article that has the kind of information that another company finds useful enough to use in one of their own publications. Now that would be a real coup! It could be an online company or a traditional off-line publication, but either way you will have gained credibility and will have increased the flow of traffic to your website. If the research you have done is thorough, then you will have gained a great deal of knowledge on your chosen subject. Now all you have to do is be a good communicator of that knowledge to your customers.

An author bio shouldn't be something tacked onto the end of an article in the hope that someone might just visit your site – like this “Jane Smith enjoys writing about website design and has the website janesmith web design.com. It should be something that motivates the reader of your article to take action. For instance... To receive a free report on effective website design visit janesmith web design.com, or... To learn more about what good website design can do for your company go to janesmith web design.com. So use the bio to really sell yourself and your company.

Throughout your article, write with benefits to the reader in mind. Well written, expert information is the key. Writing that isn't too formal or stuffy but still interesting is what makes a good article. And remember not to waste the space at the end of the article where you put your author bio. Use that space to offer benefits to the reader that will arouse their interest enough to make them visit your website.
